PhD Position in numerical modeling of thermochemical heat upgrade system for industrial heating
Are you interested in the numerical modeling of a novel thermochemical heat upgrade system suitable for industrial heating? Do you have experience and skills in thermodynamics and heat transfer? Then this PhD project may be interesting for you.
Job description
This position is part of a project recently funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe program. Here, the University of Twente together with academic/research organizations and industrial partners from 8 European countries join forces in the development of heat upgrade systems for industrial heating purposes.
Project description
In this project, a novel thermochemical heat upgrade system will be developed and tested at the relevant operating conditions. It will be used for temperature boosting of low-grade industrial waste heat, and low-concentrated solar collectors. Salt hydrates will be used as the reactive material in this system.
The goal of this Ph.D. is to investigate new design concepts for the proposed thermochemical heat upgrade system. You will develop numerical models to understand the structure-property relationship in thermochemical materials across different lengths and timescales. It will enhance our understanding of key factors governing TCM phase transitions and their impact on the coupled heat and mass transport. You are expected to connect this fundamental understanding with the reactor-level design of the proposed system. You will develop models at different length scales to accomplish this goal. You will work with the experimentalist to realize the design and numerical model validation.
You will work with experts from universities, national labs, commercial partners, and end-users. You are expected to present your work during regular project meetings with the consortium partners as well as at various national/international conferences.
