The position

You will have the opportunity to analyse synergies and trade-offs between water use and further environmental interferences caused by agricultural and industrial product systems. Besides this applied research orientation, you are encouraged to develop and advance methodological tools to consistently assess water consumption and pollution along with other environmental impacts. You are welcome to build your own research line at the intersection of water footprint and life cycle assessment. The goal is to combine and enhance the strengths of both approaches in assessing water efficiency and local impacts along global supply chains.

Besides conducting innovative research and actively acquiring national and international research funding, you will act as daily supervisor to PhD students, teach in bachelor and master level courses, guide students during their bachelor’s and master’s thesis projects, and engage in management tasks.

Your profile

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic, professional, and ambitious colleague, with the following profile.
  • A PhD degree and postdoctoral experience in a relevant field, such as water footprint assessment, life cycle assessment, or product environmental footprint.
  • Preferably knowledge in related fields such as integrated assessment, water-carbon-energy-land nexus analysis, economic input-output analysis, hydrological modelling, crop water modelling, or water resources management.
  • Successfully acquired research funding and managed projects individually.
  • An engineering, natural sciences or environmental sciences background, a multi-disciplinary focus and strong system analytical skills.
  • A strong publication record in reputed international peer-reviewed journals, with papers relevant to the position.
  • Very good communication skills and an excellent command of English.
  • Motivation and experience in teaching and experience in student supervision as evidenced by holding a University Teaching Qualification or a willingness to obtain this.
  • A drive and passion to work in a multidisciplinary research environment.

Our offer

  • You will be appointed for one year, with the prospect of a permanent position after a positive evaluation within an international scientific environment.
  • We further offer you a gross salary between € 3.974,- and € 6.181,- per month, depending on experience and qualifications (job profile Assistant Professor level 1 or 2).
  • The position is announced as assistant professor. A promotion to the associate professor level is possible, once the university’s promotion criteria are met. If the candidate meets the criteria already, the position can be started as associate professor.
  • The University of Twente offers additional attractive employment conditions (8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, solid pension scheme, sabbatical leave, professional and personal development programs, etc.).
