We are looking for an excellent, enthusiastic scholar to join the High-tech Business and Entrepreneurship (HBE) department as an assistant professor for Next Generation Digital Platforms (with a focus on the food industry). HBE, positioned within the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences, holds a leading position at the interfaces of business, technology, and the social sciences. In our ground-breaking research and novel education programs, we conduct cross-disciplinary research, supporting industries and organizations in decision-making and planning in complex real-life systems in various application areas.

As part of this position, you will be working on a multi-disciplinary program entitled ‘High-tech & data-driven agri-food system of the future.’ Together with four other tenure trackers of the four Dutch technology universities (4TU), industry partners, and government stakeholders, you will contribute to novel high-tech local food systems that can be scaled to many urban environments in the world. Your work within this project will focus on the design of a Data Platform that enables:

In addition to this project, you will be engaged in the development of Next Generation Digital Platforms in general, alongside exploring related subjects within the areas of management of information systems and business analytics, such as enterprise architecture, blockchain, machine learning, and (generative) AI. Your responsibilities will also include contributing to the acquisition of new projects in these fields and teaching these topics within our educational programs Business & IT, Industrial Engineering and Management, and International Business Administration (we typically assume an equal share between research and education).

Responsibilities

You contribute to research, teaching, and knowledge valorization. You will:

Your profile

  • show vision and ambitious drive (seeing opportunities and possibilities, showing ambition);
  • knowledge of and experience in digital systems within the business domain, e.g., management of information systems, data infrastructures, enterprise architecture, service platforms, business analytics, (generative) AI, machine learning, and blockchain;
  • hold a PhD degree in computer science, business information technology, systems engineering, or a related field, and have experience in research, which is apparent from publications in reputable academic journals, presentations in international scientific conferences, and other academic activities;
  • conduct (fundamental and applied) research within a multidisciplinary environment;
  • active in networks for acquiring research funding, and ambition and experience in working closely with companies and government agencies;
  • teaching experience (both lecturing and tutoring) at an internationally accredited university;
  • be a team player, which will help further develop the business information systems team;
  • willing to collaborate on proposals and joint teaching programs;
  • possess good communication skills and an excellent command of English;
  • possess a (equivalent of) University Teaching Qualification certificate, or be willing to obtain this, and have a real passion for, and the ambition to become a creative and effective teacher.

Our offer

We offer a permanent position (1.0 FTE) after a positive evaluation after 1 year. The starting salary, depending on your experience, ranges between € 4.492 to € 6.986 gross per month (in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities), based on the job profile Assistant Professor. In addition, the University of Twente offers additional attractive employment conditions (8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, solid pension scheme, sabbatical leave, professional and personal development programs, etc.).

About the department

We are looking for an excellent enthusiastic scholar to join the High-tech Business and Entrepreneurship (HBE) department at the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences. HBE holds a leading position at the interfaces of business, technology and the social sciences. In our ground-breaking research and novel education programmes, we strive for making an impact in business and healthcare by conducting cross-disciplinary research. We combine various themes such as smart-industry, supply chain management, transportation and logistics management, innovation management, healthcare operations, technology-based entrepreneurship, purchasing and supply management, cyber security, financial engineering, HRM, change management, and leadership. This position will be placed in a team that focuses on Business Information Systems and is partly responsible for the (bachelor and master) Business & IT program.
