The University of Twente (UT) is seeking a skilled individual for the combined role of Project Manager and Research Engineer at the Photonic Integration Technology Center (PITC) and MESA+. This position emphasizes collaboration with industry partners and stakeholders in the Twente area to advance integrated photonics.

Different expertise’s work together in research and development of photonic chips, development of microscopic techniques and application of nano-photonics in sensing, manufacturing, and imaging. To give you a flavor of what we are doing, in this cluster, researchers are for example engaged in research into photonic crystals in which light can be trapped, unbreakable security solutions based on quantum physics, advanced mirrors for the chip industry and extremely precise, miniscule lasers that can be used on chips.

Your profile

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic team member. A strong cleanroom research engineer with project management skills
  • You know how to work in a team of professionals and contribute to the overall success of the team.
  • A background in photonics, semiconductors, or a related engineering field, with laboratory experience in a clean room setting.
  • Proven project management experience, showcasing strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience in design and modeling, including PDk’s, within the field of photonics is highly desirable
  • Hands-on experience with photonic integrated circuits and relevant fabrication techniques is highly desirable.

Our offer

  • We offer a challenging position (32-38 hours/week) in an inspiring multidisciplinary and industrial-academic environment, within a university which continuously improves the collaboration with industry and start-ups.
  • The appointment will be for a 2,5 years. The rating will be based on your background and relevant experience and can vary up to € 6.433,- gross per month based on scale 11.
  • The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities is applicable.
  • Additionally, the University of Twente provides excellent facilities for professional and personal development, an 8% holiday allowance, and an 8,3% end of year bonus.
  • Free access to the sports facilities on campus.
  • At least 232 vacation hours for a full-time position.
