We are looking for a dedicated Education-/Research assistant (Amanuensis) for the BET Department. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting the efficiency of our (bio)chemica and (molecular) cell biological laboratories by managing general tasks and serving as the central point of contact. You will be responsible for managing the storage room, assisting research technicians, and performing various general tasks, thereby improving clarity and efficiency and allowing  research technicians to focus on their research and teaching duties.

Your profile

  • You are the first point of contact for service engineers who repair, calibrate, or service critical equipment. Additionally, you will liaise with internal CFM and external services for minor repairs.
  • You are responsible for managing inventory and ordering plastic disposables and chemicals for general use in the storage room. This includes overseeing the safe storage of chemicals and maintaining their registration and stock records in SOFOS 360 and/or ELN (e-lab journal).   
  • In addition, you will handle general tasks including:                                     
  • Safely disposing of chemical and medical waste.
  • Performing routine maintenance tasks such as filling liquid nitrogen containers, defrosting freezers, and inspecting safety cabinets.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization in laboratory areas.
  • Autoclaving essential lab items and calibrating micropipettes.
  • Planning and coordinating regular lab cleanings, as well as managing task lists for minor lab duties.
  • Preparing general solutions and conducting routine tests as required. 
  • Capable of communicating in both Dutch and English

Our offer

  •  A full-time position for 1 year.
  • Your salary and associated conditions are in accordance with the collective labour agreement for Dutch universities (CAO-NU).
  • You will receive a gross monthly salary ranging from € 2.618 to € 3.149 ,-  depending on experience and education.
  • There are excellent benefits including a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, and a solid pension scheme.
  •  A minimum of 232 leave hours in case of full-time employment based on a formal workweek of 38 hours. A full-time employment in practice means 40 hours a week, therefore resulting in 96 extra leave hours on an annual basis.
  • Free access to sports facilities on campus.
