Project Overview

The goal of this project is to create a system capable of autonomously selecting the optimal concrete composition and process parameters to produce the ideal concrete paste for specific applications, so as to reduce material wastage and improve the environmental performance of concrete as a building material.

This collaborative project between the University of Twente and the University of Applied Sciences Saxion brings together a wealth of expertise from fundamental science, granular material modeling, software development, calibration, creative design, and concrete printing. As the Postdoc, you will lead the development of the digital twin environment, working closely together with a PhD student who will focus on developing the physical twins of the mixing and printing processes. Together, you will create a virtual twin for these processes, using a combination of granular material modeling and machine learning techniques. Supporting this position is an academic team consisting of academic staff members with expertise that covers modeling, programming and experimentation.

Your profile

  • Completed PhD.
  • Expertise in digital twinning and granular material modeling.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and process optimisation.
  • Strong background in software development and data processing.
  • Proficiency in coding, particularly in Python and C++.
  • Experience in developing user interfaces.
  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting.
  • Team management and coordination abilities.

Our offer

  • A full-time 30-months position as a post-doctoral researcher
  • Gross salary between € 3.877,- and € 5.090,- per month depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Partially paid parental leave and an allowance for commuting, working from home and internet costs
  • A stimulating and supportive research environment.
  • Access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and equipment.
  • Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of experts across two academic institutions.
  • Opportunities for professional development and training.
  • An annual holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, and an annual year-end bonus of 8.3%
  • A minimum of 29 holidays.
  • Proximity to Enschede, a mid-size city with a large social offer, immersed in the nature of the Twente region.
  • High-quality training programs on general skills, didactics and topics related to design research.
