Research position in additive manufacturing of shape memory alloys
Are you an experienced researcher with a Master’s degree interested in continuing your pursuit of scientific questions in a diverse, ambitious, and competitive environment? Are you someone with the desire to develop your research ideas, strengthen your technical skills, contribute to cutting-edge innovations, and establish new collaborations? We have a vacancy for a researcher in additive manufacturing of shape memory alloys.
The Challenge
We have a 1-year research position (with the possibility of extension) within a multidisciplinary team working at the intersection of materials science, mechanical engineering, and additive manufacturing. This role centers on the development, additive manufacturing, and experimental evaluation of shape memory alloys (SMAs)—such as NiTi-based systems—with an emphasis on microstructural control, phase transformation behavior, thermal properties, and functional performance. The candidate will investigate key characteristics such as austenite and martensite transformation temperatures, caloric effects, and mechanical response, and will contribute to the optimization of process parameters in Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) to enable the fabrication of functionally graded, architected materials.
Information and application
Are you interested in being part of our team? Please send your application before August 1, 2025, via the "Apply Now" button and include the following documents:
- A cover letter (maximum one A4 page), emphasizing your specific interest in the position, relevant qualifications, and motivation. Please clearly outline how your background aligns with the required technical expertise.
- A transcript of your Diploma, courses taken, and grades achieved.
- Title and abstract of your Master’s project/thesis.
- A detailed CV, including a list of publications (if applicable), relevant coursework, and the contact information of at least three references.
For more information about this position, you are welcome to contact Dr. Davoud Jafari at davoud.jafari@utwente.nl.
Screening is part of the procedure.
